I am SOOO excited for this. Mostly because my family has good friends in Odense (about an hour from Copenhagen), so I could actually go to see it!!!

DearOldShiz
Apparently, the theater company was licensed to do it's OWN production of WICKED. The first time ever. I'm very interested to see their take on it.
WhoaItsJonathan
Yep, it's the first production to not be a carbon-copy!
Robert Upland
can anyone translate the press realease?
Robert Upland
sorry for double posting but BWW has translated it.

EDIT: By the way this is VERY exciting biggrin.gif I can't wait to see how they change the costumes especially.

I'm surprised it will not be a carbon copy production, but am so excited to see what everything will look like!

And cast recording, please.

Strawberry-blond/auburn hair for Glinda would be interesting!

And it'd be awesome if they do something completely different for DG that is equally effective!
Robert Upland
^What language would it be? Danish?

Exciting! I've thought about before how cool it would be to see different takes on Wicked, but didn't expect that we'd be seeing one so soon! Is there any word on when this'll open?
Robert Upland
^ The article says it will should open with the 2010-2011 season.

^ Ah, I missed that line as I was scanning, thanks!

I'm interested in seeing how this will come out, but still, seriously? New directions and sets, etc? It must have enough money to provide a great enough show if they were able to buy or get the rights I presume.

Hmm, I'm excited to see what changes they make, but to be honest I wouldn't like to see Wicked be messed around with too much. I think everything works great as it is and the only flaws to me are in the storyline, which is probably one thing that won't be changed.
saintaelphaba
I think an entirely new vision for Wicked would be great! It has a lot to live up to but I think the show can be staged so creatively in a variety of ways. Look at what happened to Beauty and the Beast, it was fabulous as a re-imagining.

I'm all for it I have to say. Lets see what they come up with!

I also wonder if the score will be altered a little? And I also wonder what the logo will be ..oo..

No, they would never have permission to do so.

In first hearing the news pictured a DG where it's not just a slow lift and the spectacular lighting effects...lol would LOVE to see more "energized" defying gravity! elphie3.gif

Yep same about the storyline flaws and don't see changes there, although one can hope! z4dwink.gif I'm VERY excited about this considering Wicked is pretty much a set formula worldwide, except for the logo and language. I was hoping our Australian production would be a little more unique and was initially very disappointed with the fake American accents...not sure if they have improved or I'm just immune to it all now. goof.gif Besides I highly doubt that Stephen Schwartz would approve changes if not an improvement on the original show in some way. LOL when I think of the backlash from Phantom fans about ALW's 'Love Never Dies' could you imagine Wicked fan's reaction if it's less than wonderful! icon_eek.gif

It'd be unlikely that there'd be any huge changes. But, quite often, a show might be reorchestrated for a new production, or the arrangement might change very slightly with extra bars added for blocking etc.

I'm excited! Ever since the first overseas production opened I've been wondering when we'd see our first non-replica production.

Precisely...though I'd actually thought it would never be...more a pipe dream! In regards to changes....I don't think it will stray too far...more enhance. Look at the extra impact NOMTW has with the looming Elphaba shadow in the background compared to a giant witches hat on the stage. blink.gif That was a change from the original show and a scene I look forward to every time I see Wicked...especially from the front row! w00t.gif Costumes also...the bubble dress and Elphaba's 2nd act dresses are noticeable improvements on the original designs. Besides this board is filled with little nuances about performances, costumes etc., and for those of us who have seen Wicked more than a few times...lol we "LIVE" for little changes to keep things interesting! tongue.gif

I just hope they don't use strings in DG. That would suck balls. All I can imagine is how they could screw up certain things like the bubble for example. The Wicked we have along with every other production currently running is very very complex and the choices used for costumes, wigs, make up, staging (etc.) is very intricate. I feel they will miss certain ingredients. I truly hope not. Oh well I'm just too pessimistic.

I'm hoping they choose to get rid of some of the dodgier lines in the libretto...
"such wingspan"
"Well of course, it's daytime"
etc
Gorf
I'm really excited to see what they come up with. There are so many ways that wicked could be done. I think we should just remain optimistic instead of filling our heads with a bunch of "OMG! What if they make Elphaba BLUE!" scenarios.

LOL! Well, That would certainly make a handful of lines difficult.

"The baby is unnaturally... uhhh... BLUUUEEEE!"

I guess you see a more downsized version...I'm imagining improvements on the original. elphie3.gif

I wonder if the theater would have had to share some of their plans before they were given full permission to do their own production? I really have no idea how all the licensing stuff works, but I imagine the producers would really have to trust that they'd do a good job before turning the show over like that, considering how strict they've been with all the other productions staying the same.

OMG YAY! I live in sweden only a trainride away! No more having to fly to london or new york wink.gif
