I thought it would be a great idea to have a thread dedicated entirely to the discussion of movies. I saw Shutter Island last night and it was a brilliant film! Creepy, moving and a wonderful "Oscar-worthy" performance from Leonardo Dicaprio. The twist was as good if not better than "The Others."

I'm not sure if the idea will work since alot of films hae seperate threads like the Harry Potter films and Pirates of the Caribbean.

I had no desire in seeing the movie since I geussed the "twist" at the end when I first saw the trailer. I looked up the plot and saw I was right.

Can we discuss movies that aren't new?
I just watched Hotel Rwanda. Very good, but hard and distressing to watch. Knowing it really happened makes it that much harder to get through.

I remember watching that a few years ago and being so shocked that people could actually do that kind of thing to each other. It was a great film, though.

I have that on DVD, but I've not seen it yet because I'm never really in the mood to sit and put myself through a film like that. Besides the obvious bad bits, is it a good film? As in a REALLY good film?

Currently watching The Pirate (1948). Love Judy Garland's performance and her voice is absolutely gorgeous, but the material isn't anything amazing. She steals the film of course. GOD I LOVE HER.
After this, I am watching Dark Victory with Bette Davis.

I think I've seen every movie Judy was in. The Pirate wasn't one of her better ones IMO. My favorites are The Wizard of Oz (duh), Meet Me in St. Louis, and A Star is Born. For Me and My Gal and Easter Parade are also pretty good. She's so underrated as an actress.

I agree with everything you said; she was such a brilliant actress! I find her speaking voice to be so beautifully soothing as well. She had so much depth and emotion and is hardly appreciated nowadays... I haven't seen For Me and My Gal yet, though! My favorite films of hers are The Wizard of Oz, Meet Me in St. Louis and Babes in Arms. I know I loved A Star is Born, but haven't seen it in nearly a decade. Wow. Haha.

And tomorrow night I'm going into town for a showing of The Big Lebowski, which is pretty much my favorite movie of all time, and I'm dressing up as Walter. I'm pretty excited.

We could do that. But I also think we'll leave the Harry Potter movie threads and the Twilight movie threads in their own separate areas. Those are big movies and the discussions would probably bury the rest of the movies and posts in this thread.

Warner Brothers has a new film franchise planned after they finish
Harry Potter. The
Oz books by Frank L. Baum will be made into movies beginning with
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. However, there will be no musical numbers like in the 1939 film would be more faithful to "
Oz" author L. Frank Baum's source material. The other verison they are planning is set closer to the present and most likely be even darker. Do you all think this could work?

I just watched The Barkleys of Broadway again. I love Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire (still working on watching all ten of their movies they did together though). Their dancing is just mesmerizing. I've said for a long time that if I could have one impossible wish granted, it would be to dance with Fred Astaire (they do say he could make anyone look good!) Anyway I love The Barkleys of Broadway and I am absolutely obsessed with the white dress that Ginger Rogers wears near the end during They Can't Take That Away From Me.
Also, The Princess and the Frog is coming out on DVD next Tuesday and I am ecstatic.

Is that just a quirk she does or something?

I saw Remember Me the other day. I really think the ending was a bit of a cop out.
Spoilers:
I mean, couldn't they have just finished the story instead of having some surprise September 11th plot twist? They held the Sept. 11th stuff from all the advertising, which bugged me. I would like to know that Im going to see a movie that is about the lives of people affected by 9/11. They hinted to it throughout the movie very subtly, but I really think it was unnecessary.

I think this is the first movie that's been about 9/11 without clearly stating so in the previews. I know there have been a few 9/11 movies, but people know they're going to see a 9/11 movie when they go. However, people had no idea this was a 9/11 movie. I'd imagine some people would be very upset by that...

I saw She's Out of My League today. Surprisingly, I found it to be a great wonderful comedic film. Very good writing and they didn't rely on gross/raunchy humor that's in extremely poor taste like most comedy movies now do. Very hilarious and I'd actually love to see it again.

Anyone waiting for Blood Trail to come out? To see the trailer, just youtube the title. I don't think I can even link it, it's so gruesome. And it's animation, which makes it 100X worse to watch. But maybe that's just me. Adult animation scares me.
Strange enough, I can't seem to find anything on the full length movie. Everyone says it's coming out, but I can't find anything on it.
