I check broadway grosses on broadway.com every week. And every week, Wicked registers as 100% capacity according to the number of seats sold. Since Eden and the rest of the new cast have moved into the show, the percentage as dropped to 98%. Now, even though we're still doing great, i fear Wicked may start to decline as a show. What do you think? After all Shoshana is almost as well known as elphie as idina menzel was. We lost Rue, who was brining in her golden girl fans, and a few people aren't happy with some of the new choices according to Nessa and Fiyero. While I suppose when Jenna comes the sales will increase to a certain degree, who can be sure? Please respond!

Well... I am personally thanking goodness that at least Megan stayed. I mean, as soon as Jenna comes up, almost the entire original tour cast will be on broadway. And I never really liked the tour cast. I'm just petrified that Kendra will make the switch over to broadway once Megan's contract is up. Personally, I would be horrified because I can't stand Kendra and I stand stand Derrick Williams. I dunno... I guess it kind of makes sense to me, but I dunno... :-(

Once you've seen David Ayers...man...hes hott. I'm a strait guy, and I can honestly say, David Ayers is the hottest Fiyero ever. I just hope the show doesnt close because of this decrease in attendance.

I don't think it really matters who is in it - there are off weeks/months for every show just because it slips a little doesn't mean it will keep doing that! Eden is friggin amazing and is quite popular too! I personally don't think it matters who is in the cast - the tour sells out every city within minutes and there are lesser names on that (well Steph is HUGE but now she is leaving )!

It was a bad week for Broadway in general. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the new cast. And 98.3% is hardly bad.

This isn't always the best time of year for Broadway. I'm sure it'll go back up! I think once more people see Eden, the word will get around then more people will be seeing it. Lots of musicals have a few weeks or so where they don't do so well, but I'm sure Wicked will get right back up there. I'm just glad Megan stayed. I think it'd have dropped even more if she had left as well. I'm sure it'll go back up soon!
Let me just say, Eden is incredible (I saw her opening night) and I'm sure once word gets out (after people have had more time to see her) it'll get better!

Broadway ALWAYS does poorly at this time of year. The tourists are gone, it's cold, people don't want to see shows. I don't think it has anything to do with anything but the fact that not as many people see shows at this point in the year. It happends every year.

WICKED will be fine. She easily has another year or two in her at the VERY least. As previously stated, this may just be a slow time. I doubt the cast change will have a major effect on attendance figures, perhaps if people decide to postpone ticket purchases for a few months to give the new cast 'settling time'. Eden is as big a name on Broadway as Shoshana Bean, and lets just hope Megan Hilty never leaves.

personally, if megan leaves, im not into the show anymore. I cant stand the new cast. Why they were able to go to broadway is beyond me. Megans the only reason i keep seeing the show now that shoshana is gone. Eden is still no good to me. And this is her what.....75th performance already since she started in the show (in 2003 or w/e) and she still cant settle on a way to sing.
Lets do ourselves a favor and not say the words " Megan" and "LEaving" in the same sentence.

You can't judge a book by the cover as they say... take us tour fans Julia came into the tour picture out of nowhere and we are all so excited to see her! Well, there are reasons I don't like the new cast. And don't worry, I have seen all of them before, and still disliked them. Derrick is a crappy Fiyero. His singing is weird, and his acting isn't much better. And David was friggin incredible so I admit hes a hard act to follow but still. And Kendra... don't even get me started. On the tour she barely performs any matinees because her voice can't handle the role. And lets face it guys, the girl isn't a soprano. And her voice gets weaker and weaker as a week goes on. How would she handle broadway? I'm sorry but when a person can't handle what a role calls for, I can't begin to evaluate their acting. Anyways, those are my two biggest problems. I'm not really crazy about Morrible either, but what can you do.. Eden is fine. But thank all that is holy that Megan stayed..
*Rant officially over* haha

Broadway is slow this time of the year. Also, the show has been out for two years and it managed to to stay the top grossing show. So , I don't think that ther is anything to worry about.

I don't think the new cast is going to hurt the show... and as soon as the word spreads about how amazing Eden is, I bet it'll go straight back up.
Wicked will never die... it's going to be one of those Phantom of the Opera type shows where in 20 years they'll be promoting it with "Remember your first time" and we'll all be sending our kids (who we have trained to be as obsessed and awestruck as us) will still be keeping it at 98% or more. :-D

I like seeing the new people... I love all the different interpretations. Like, I ADORE Shoshana more than life, but when I saw Stephanie in the tour I was like... WOW, I would NEVER have thought of interpreting the role like that, but that's incredible!! And then like... my friends and I tried performing it just for the fun of it, no ticketselling or anything, but we did work really hard, and our entire cast had different interpretations too, and it was amazing. It catches you off guard, too, if you're a hardcore fan, and the new people throw in different stuff that catches you by surprise and makes you happy :-D

awww, that's sad that you won't like the show anymore... it's got to be hard to take over the roles after everyone's favorites leave, I especially give Eden alot of credit... the day Sho left everyone was all "Eden can't hold a candle" and it had to be hard for her
I'm rooting for anybody who takes over, they are all REALLY HARD roles to take over, and they don't go to just anyone.

Eden's great and everything, but her voice isn't consistent. Every audio I hear of her there's too many broken notes, singing off key, just things that shouldn't be happening on a Broadway stage. It IS a very hard role, and it's very demanding... but this is Broadway! They can pick the best of the bunch, there's probably a hundred or so people out there that have the ability to pull Elphie off that probably wouldn't be as inconsistent as Eden. It seems (to me atleast) that they've 'settled' and Eden was an easy option.
I was so desperate to go back to NY after seeing Sho and Meg in Nov, but now Sho's gone and we're left with Eden, not so much. I'm still gonna go back, purely because Megan is so wonderful.

Also, I do NOT appreciate the Eden, Steph, and Kendra bashing that's perpetrated by some members of this forum. It's OK not to like them but PLEASE at least respect what they're doing. I don't see anyone being offensive though. Some general guidelines as to what you deem offensive need to be stated before we can tell if we're offending anyone by your standards.
pseudomaunt
Feb 9 2006, 02:45 AM
All right... any disparaging remark against ANYONE. It can range from the obvious "She sucks and I hate her" to "I can't stand them and I wish they would leave" to "She's not the best" to "He's a lousy so and so." I wouldn't consider what you said as offensive, though, cinderella, because you at least explained why you don't think Kendra is right for the role... and NOT EVERYONE is offensive, so don't think I'm directing this toward specific people.
We need to censor ourselves on here, because eyes ARE watching. Besides, we're talking about real people whose feelings CAN get hurt. We wouldn't want to start flame wars on here.
And, to get really nitpicky, I just don't think this topic calls for discussing why or why not certain members of the cast are qualified for their jobs... it's a perfectly legitimate question that could be answered in other ways.
cinderella
Feb 9 2006, 02:55 AM
Maybe some guidelines on etiquette would be helpful. Then if anyone does post something offensive, just post the link for the guidelines. And then there's no need for arguements.
I think problems arise though when someone's idea of offensive isn't necassarily the same as someone else's. Then you have to be wary that this place becomes over-moderated and you're not allowed to say anything any more except for the usual 'I  'insert name'
Obviously outright offensive remarks (she's fat, he's horrible to speak to and so on) should be deleted. But anything else, especially if it has been written constructively shouldn't be a problem.
pseudomaunt
Feb 9 2006, 03:36 AM
:agree:
Maybe we can make a general etiquette thread in General Talk and have some mods contribute?
But this is OFF-TOPIC so I'll just say that it's quite natural for sales not to be that high at this time of year AND when a new cast comes aboard... unless there's someone legitimately "famous" outside the Broadway community who can attract attention. Lots of people know who Carol Kane is, so they'll come for her if not anyone else. But it's WICKED and it sells out every day, so we shouldn't worry about ticket sales dropping dramatically.
jstarz927
Feb 9 2006, 03:10 PM
Considering that these past few weeks are usually a slow time for Broadway and that Wicked played at 98% capacity with $1.3 million in sales, I certainly don't think the new cast is hurting the show at all.

guys Kendra isnt that bad a glinda. In fact all of the elhpies and glidas have been great. The morrible seem to have their up and downs (rondi and shelley rule!) and fiyero just fell short sometimes. Besides that we're fine on casts. all the nessa's are great (michelle's the best, but lets not get into that). The wizards are pretty much great. I mean really! I am UBER UBER UBER happy that I'll see Megan and Jenna, and Eden sort of (i mean, anyone other than SJB is good for me) but I am really disappointed in the new cast...I am debating making a time machine and going to see the OBC and the Sho/hilty/dave casts to get the GOOD casts.
