DefyingGravity1991
not sure how i feel about this..... im not liking it as of now
Teal-Shade-of-Eden
Excellent. Just no Idina or Kristin and I'm sold.

I can't wait. Me thinks it's time to resurrect the Dream Cast thread biggrin.gif
DefyingGravity1991
im just afraid the same thing will happen with Wicked as Hairspray... once the movie came out the show closed..... but then again POTO is still running and im sure Wicked will too..... but there are always the odds

Well Hairspray is a fantastic, fun show but I don't think it's quite the spectacle that Wicked or Phantom is. So I don't think it will close as quick as Hairspray did. I just feel Wicked and Phantom are more popular.

No teal or eden then I'm sold...actually I'm not, dont let this happen for years

There is always a list of people we do and do not want in the movie but I have a bad feeling they will use a non-Wicked actor. Ugh Phantom all over again! angry.gif
degeorgetitanic
I wouldnt say it would be bad...I think there are many talented unknowns who could play the parts quite well

I think I'd actually be okay with that, if not prefer it, personally. If they can play the part well onscreen, then I have no problem with it. (Though, in total accuracy, I don't like the idea of a Wicked film. At all.)

That's just me, though.

I liked the cast of the Phantom movie. Gerard Butler didn't have the best singing voice, but his acting was so wonderful I let it slide.

I don't want Idina or Kristin either. Love them both, but they're really getting too old. And please, no Lea Michele...

And some of their casting ideas in the comment section are really scaring me.
Fritz
This is still years away....it's been "in talks" for years - highly doubting that this is going to happen quickly.

New interview with Ms. Menzel:

QUOTE
Idina Menzel, the actress who created the role of Elphaba in Broadway's uber-popular musical 'Wicked,' says she's "too old" to reprise her Tony-winning performance on the big screen.

http://blog.moviefone.com/2010/10/13/idina...nside-Movies%29

The article also mentions the possible reprisal of her role in an Enchanted sequel.
Butterfly328
^ Idina has been told she was too old as the article states. I have a bad feeling they will cast Lea Michelle as Elphaba....I can just see that happening.
clockworkgirl21
Idina will be in her 40s, which is too old. But it would be awesome if she played Melena(Elphaba's mother, for those who haven't read the book).

Please, no Lea Michele. I'm praying for that.
Yeroismyhero
I would like to see this done by Tim Burton. I love his style and his dark themes. I honestly don't want to see anyone who has been in the role in the movie. First of all most will be too old anyways because this movie is still years away. Another reason is because I believe there is so much undiscovered talent and they'll find some wonderful young women to play Elphaba and Glinda.
WickedinNews
I agree with you. Wicked just seems like one of those movies that is going to be an undiscovered actress's BIG BREAK.
Yeroismyhero
I also just feel like, with the way WICKED is, any known actress will never really capture the role for me. Because I know I'll be like... "Oh wow, that's so and so..." You know what I mean? Like for instance if Anne Hathaway was Elphaba (way off I know I just thought of her first) I just don't think I could see her as Elphaba. But if you give me someone I don't know, it'll be a lot better.

I also think the Tim Burton thing could work out with working in aspects of the book into the movie. The movie is dark and twisted just like his style. I know its a long shot but I think it is entirely doable.
clockworkgirl21
I don't want Tim Burton to do another musical movie after Sweeney Todd. It was an okay movie, but why does he always cast the same people whether they fit the role or not? He'd probably want Helena Bonham Carter as Elphaba, Johnny Depp as Fiyero, and his old girlfriend Lisa Marie as Glinda.

I think he's a talented director, but I wouldn't trust him with Wicked.
Yeroismyhero
I wouldn't want Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter in it (as much as I love them). They would definitely not fit. I could see Helena being Melena MAYBE. But even that I don't think so. I would just like to see his interpretation. I think he would use the book stuff too. Now that'd be a fun movie, incorporating both musical and book.
ForGood
As I've said before, I can't see a movie of the musical being anything other than a huge disaster. A movie of the book could be great if done right.
Yeroismyhero
Yeah I just think the whole "Defying Gravity" scene just can't be done right. I have a few other things in mind that I just can't see done right but this is the major one. Nothing can top seeing it onstage.
Fritz
Nothing can really top it, but I'm hoping someone can get creative and do something fun with it. Who knows.

No. No. Please. No. No. Just... NO! Lol
clockworkgirl21
I don't know if I'm more horrified by Lea or the 3D.
Fritz
I don't see everyone's horror with Lea...I think she has a lovely voice and is a strong actress. She plays an annoying character, but I think she's wonderful.

Agree with this. I'd rather see an unknown in the role, but I think Lea could pull it off. She has great vocals, IMO. Definitely not the strongest actress by any means, though. I'd kill for Julia, Eden or Willemijn. Too bad it's not the Golden Age for movie musicals anymore... because then people who'd performed it on Broadway/stage would likely film. Meh.

I doubt 3D will happen... it's (thankfully) becoming a dying trend.
ForGood
I'm not a fan of Lea Michele AT ALL, but at least she started out in the theatre. Too bad Willemijn, Lisa, and Idina are too old. Any one of them would otherwise be ideal to me.
wickednessa1
I am not sure what I think about Lea for Elphie, but I do know that I really HATE the 3D idea.
Fritz
My biggest fear is autotune.
ForGood
^Exactly. Autotune is evil.
Fritz
That is so true. I get so tired of Glee.
Yeroismyhero
I meant my last response more for the 3D part not Lea lol. I like her a lot. She's got an incredible voice. And she might still be young enough in a few years when the movie is filmed. And even that isn't set in stone yet either.
sparklegem
I think I would like the 3D. Just throwing that out there.

Also, with regards to Lea Michele,
1) She's already playing Dorothy in "Dorothy of Oz", so wouldn't it be rather odd if she were to play two Oz characters in two Oz movies released within a moderate window of time of each other?

2) From what I've heard on Glee so far, it seems like her voice, while excellent, might be a little more clear and light than I would prefer for an Elphaba (after all one reason Menzel was cast was because her "rougher" vocal quality contrasted nicely with Chenoweth's), but it might very well be Glee's ridiculous auto-tuning that's given me that impression.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
Regarding 3D: yes, I'd love that. You guys will appreciate it more when 3D will not require glasses in the future. I think it should be as much a screen spectacle as it is one on stage.
Regarding Lea: I don't think her voice fits Elphaba, sorry.

Casting will be the hardest part of the Wicked movie. Special effects/filming wise, I think it could be brilliant, but casting is a problem.

Im wondering if thy will take the route that Irina predicted: have it Avatar-like and have everyone be CGI, and they make Irina put on a motion capture device and use her voice.
wickedlou
I just dont really see why age is a big problem for the actresses. Its not like Hollywood wouldnt be able to make them look younger or older anyway
Yeroismyhero
I'm sorry but no amount of makeup and lighting is going to make Idina pass for a college student. Or most of the actresses for that matter. It'd be nice if they could get Idina in there in a minor role as maybe Melena.
Elphie T.
I'm opposed to both the 3D element, and the mainstream casting. I'm sorry, but 3D makes it sound extremely cheesy. And while casting someone like Lea would bring in a lot of money, I don't think it's a very good idea. It just sounds too "Hollywood" to me. I understand that they're trying to bring the story to everyone by making it into a movie, but it just sounds like they're ruining it. That's just how I'm seeing it as of now.

P.S. Can anyone picture what "Defying Gravity" would look like on film? I can only see it looking extremely cheesy, but maybe that's just me.
Yeroismyhero
^Yeah... kind of like Harry Potter-esque with the actress on a broom in front of a green screen. I just don't see how they can do that scene without it being cheese-galore.

But who knows, maybe someone has a super brilliant way to make it work....I don't know though.

And yeah, bringing big name stars into the movie would boost it immensely. But I'm sure there's tons of people who could sing and are relatively unknown. But its all about making money.
DefyingGravity1991
Why cant they just film the show as they did for Rent?
The movie wont do the actual show justice.
sparklegem
I'm sure that the director will take enough creative license and free himself from the specifics of the musical enough to create something that is natural to the medium of film. It would be incredulous for DG not to be in the movie, but who knows how it might be incorporated?

That's what I would hope for.
WickedinNews
Seriously everyone, let's be real. The producers of Wicked and the film will not allow it to be crap. This is one of, if not the most popular musical of the decade and currently right now. This movie is going to kick donkey and I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure they are well aware of how to make this movie work. Just my two cents worth.
ForGood
If I'm being real, I can't see the movie being anything than a disaster of epic proportions. Just my two cents. I hope they prove me wrong. I doubt they will. wink.gif
Yeroismyhero
And the producers might make a movie they think is EPIC and we all could still think it was an EPIC FAIL. What they envision and what actually comes out on the big screen can also be a big flop. Who knows, maybe they will surprise us and make this great movie we can all be proud of. But let's face it, when have we all agreed on something?
Elphiethegood
the 3D thing I hope is NOT true the Lea thing i hope IS true. Oh man she'd be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOOOOOOOOVE HER!!!!!!!!!!!! She'd be perfect!!!!!
I Couldn't Be Happier
Not sure how I feel about the 3D possibility. While I am not a big Lea fan there is no denying her voice. She would be a great Elphaba. So what about Glinda? And who is up for Fiyero? Alas my norby is far too old for the big screen......

I think that we should all go into this with an open mind. Separate the movie from the musical. Just try to see them as two different things.
Wickedly*Defying*Gravity
I don't get why people are so opposed to 3D. If you don't wanna watch it in 3D, go see it in a normal 2D theatre. Simple as that. The 3D doesnt have to be "eye popping" cheesy 3D, it can just add depth and make you feel like you're in the movie, like in Avatar. I'm all for 3D. As long as they don't focus on 3D effects but just incorporate it, youll all be happy with 3D one day.

After all, sound was once considered a crazy idea.
