This is going to be a fairly quick review - just going through the leads & making general notes. I was also thrilled to meet Val yesterday at the show! smile.gif
Firstly, the Gershwin is a beautiful theatre - it was nice to explore while waiting for the show to start!
Also, the orchestra was excellent.
Mandy Gonzalez did an excellent job as Elphaba - she has a very lovely, loud voice and a nice interpretation of the role. We named her ghetto Elphie (even if that is technically Shoshana's title...) She was upset, but justifiably so. She's adorable in "The Wizard and I" - I felt like it was her best song. She's so excited but trying to restrain herself...she dances around and bobs her head a lot.
I enjoyed Katie Rose Clarke as Glinda much more this time...she is SO loud when she sings, which is a good thing, especially on those high notes! Her acting was wonderful, and she didn't overdo it nearly as much...she's still not my favorite Glinda by any stretch, but I really enjoyed her.
Andy Karl was clearly sick; Bryan West had performed the role at least Friday & Saturday mat, and he just did not sound as excellent as I know he can, so I don't feel fair judging him. His acting was very nice, though.
PJ Benjamin is VERY campy as The Wizard - very entertaining but a tad over the top for my taste...but he held down the role!
Now, Kathy Fitzgerald was the best Madame Morrible I have ever seen. She was absolutely hilarious in Act 1. For example: "we have the highest hopes..." -looks at Glinda's shoes- "for...some of you". Also, whenever Glinda and her cronies were spazzing she just put her head in her hand. Hysterical. Come act 2, she was downright terrifying. In conclusion, I adore her.
I enjoyed Jenny Fellner as Nessarose; she reminded me a lot of Stefanie Brown. She has a killer voice; I can really see her doing Judy in 9-to-5 someday...it just seems like it would fit her well. She's very subtle, and just upset by her disability.
Alex Brightman did well as Boq...as did Timothy Britten Parker as Dillamond...it takes a heck of a lot to impress me in either of those roles...I just don't care for them that much...but they did well and did not bother me!
Stagedoor was nice...cast was very friendly!
Any questions? Just ask..I know this was brief and vague!
