Our 2nd Wicked Trip!
We left the hotel in Allentown at 12pm and drove to NYC to go do the Hairspray and Wicked Lotto. The night before, I made a shirt with glow in the dark that said “I (HEART) WICKED” on the front (I drew the witch thing on top of the I too), and “Ave Q” and “RENT” on each sleeve.
Before we left PA, we went to the Crayola Factory in Allentown and my friend bought Window Washable Markers. After that, we went to the store across from it and went to check out the clearance rack. There was a pink candle stand the shape of a chair (really cute!) and my friend wanted to get it for my mom cause it was only $4 and her mom loves candles. So anyway, I took that one off the shelf and lo and behold, there was a green one RIGHT behind it!! Those were the ONLY 2 left! I was SO shocked. I just yelled “WICKED!!”. The ladies at the desk thought I was crazy… hehe. So then I told her that she had to buy both of them, then I launched into song “They deserve each other” LoL. So I ended up buying the green one and she bought the pink. .
We get back into the car and start writing on the window. I wrote “I (heart) WICKED!” on my window, and then my sis and friend started writing all these musicals on their windows too. I’ll post a pic soon. And it was really cool! Cause we use the respective colours that represent the musicals.
In NYC, while waiting at a red light, this guy on the curb pokes his friend, takes out his camera, and takes a picture of our window! We all were laughing SO hard in the car.
Ok... So we had 30mins to kill before the 5pm Hairspray Lotto, so my mom decided to drive to Central Park to see the Orange Gates. I don’t know what the fuss is about orange curtains… I think it was a TOTAL waste of money… We got there and were like “Wait… That’s it?! WTF…”, then we turned around and headed back to Hairspray. There were 5 people there… Us four and this other girl who loved Wicked too. So we started talking about Wicked and how we both had won the Lotto. Then we found out that the Lotto for Hairspray was for the very last row of mezzanine… “$25 for the very last row? Screw this…” So we all left and went to do the Wicked Lotto. We all lost and then ran to the cancellation line (I was 8th in line). We got tickets to Orchestra rows Y and H! (We spent $400 on tickets, but was totally worth every penny) I was SO excited! I was finally going to see JLT, Shosh, and Ayers!
Pre-story. On Dec 28th, I won the Lotto. I went to the stage door to give a letter to the Stage Manager and to write a note to the PSM. While I was writing, this guys walks in the Stage Door. Well, I always heard fans talking about a mean Stage Door guy (Kevin? I think) who was big and looked like this guy. So I walked up to him and asked, “Hi. Are you Kevin?” and he said “No, I’m K. I'm in the Pit”. SO then we started talking, and I told him I was a percussionist and played in the Pit for Les Mis and other musicals. When we went into the theatre, our seats were right above where K. sat, so we talked more. Then he told the Percussion player about me, but Andy left the theatre early that night. So I said good bye to K. and thanked him. That was the last time I talked to him. Until last night.
Back to 2/18/05. We ran in to get our seats. My sis and I sat in Row Y and let my mom and friend sit in Row H because they haven’t seen it before. When sitting further away, I noticed a lot of stuff that I missed when I sat in the front row.
Full Show Review
ACT 1
No one mourns the Wicked – JLT was REALLY good. Same as every other performance. I tried to clap when JLT first came down, but no one else clapped until 5 seconds later…
Dear Old Shiz – Everyone clapped and whistled when S.Bean came out.
Wizard and I – She had a little tough time on the first few high notes, but nailed the remaining and ending PERFECTLY.
What is this Feeling – JLT is SO funny when she says “Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe.”
Something Bad – Meh…
Dancing Through Life – David Ayers is SO cute!! He was really good. I was impressed. Boq was “meh” I liked Christopher Fitzgerald better.
Popular – JLT was HILARIOUS! During the hair scene, she did “toss, toss. Now no hands. Quick. Subtle, subtle, subtle (Looked like they were having spasms).” Then she said “Can’t see it, can’t even see it, where’d it go? Oh! (High pitch squeal)”. Hehe.
I’m not that Girl – The scene between them was SO CUTE! (Ayers and Bean)
One Short Day – Really cool from far. (I got the signature from the guy riding the bike.) LLAM.
Sentimental Man – Wasn’t impressed.
Defying Gravity – One word. “WOW!”. The lighting was AMAZING. So was her voice.
Intermission
During intermission, I ran down the aisle and got myself some white and green confetti. Yay! Then I talked to this guy who won the Lotto Tickets and knew the conductor, so he was going backstage for the 3rd time. I was really jealous. My sis and I waited for K. to come back into the Pit. He finally showed up 10 mins later. We talked to him and I gave him a gymp glow-in-the-dark keychain that I made. When we were about to go back to our seats, I asked him “Hey K., are you allowed to take people backstage?” then he said “Yeh! Sure. No Problem! Meet me at the stage door after the show.”. My sis and I ran to tell my friend the good news. We were SO giddy with joy that we couldn’t sit still. My heart was thumping really hard during the entire 2nd act.
ACT 2
NOMTW (Reprise) – Good.
Thank Goodness – My sis and I were lip singing “I couldn’t be happier!” (backstage reference)
Wicked Witch of the East – Michelle Federer has perfected her part as Nessa. I wonder who will take over for her.
Wonderful – I enjoyed this very much. The lighting was really awesome.
During the scene where Glinda slaps Elphie, EVERYONE in the audience was like ::GASP::! and there I was sitting in the back laughing my head off. I think I was the only one laughing...
I’m not that girl (Reprise) – Gotta love JLT.
ALAYM – Ayers struggled with the first few high notes, but the rest was good. They are So cute together. (Just remembered – JLT is taller than Shosh… It’s totally opposite IM and KC.)
No Good Deed – Absolute highlight of the show. Best song that night. Holy cow… Shosh just went out there and made that song hers. I was (insert mix of speechlessness and amazement here) by the end of the song. Shosh Rocked this song. Better then Idina. Shosh put a lot more emotion into it.
March of the Witch Hunters – Too bad no mallet heads came flying off. LoL.
For Good – ::bawls::
Finale – bawls even more…
THE END of the review
Congrats. You have made it past the review. Ok. Now the tour. SLC. We ran all the way to the stage door after the map came down. We met K. and he took us up to the lounge. I found out the K. was in Idina Menzel’s band!! He played at the Zipper theatre, and he said that he could have gotten me tickets! Argh! Moving on… Since I play percussion, he introduced me to Andy Jones. Andy had his own room full of percussion instruments and traps. Like 360o of instruments even along the walls and ceiling. He showed me how certain instruments were used when Elphie and Yero are together, or when Dillimond does the bleating. It was SO COOL! And he played them for us to hear.
Then we went to Stage Left. I was hyperventilating (almost) lol. Walked over to Stage Right. I saw the Prop Shelf. And the Grimmirie was there!! I was like “Can I touch it?”. It has real writing in it. I also saw the elixir bottles, Elphie and Glinda’s pen, the hat & Box, the pail (during the melting scene), the chalkboard, too much stuff to name!
So then we moved on to the costume room. Wow.. their costumes look SO cool up close! And I saw the Popular and One Short Day dress!! It’s SO pretty! Also saw all the Wigs and met the people who did the make up. There was a lot of fan stuff in the make up room. There were these 2 dolls (One Elphie and Galinda) hanging on the wall (In a box). The guy who does Idina’s make up said that they were Buffy the Vampire Slayer dolls, and the fan just added clay and paint. He said “Don’t look too close. They’re really scary. At first we thought it was cute until we found out that the person who made it was this 40 year old man who was obsessed about the show. So we just put it up there to laugh at it” hahaha! Poor Man.
Then we went to all the rooms! I met JLT and George Hearn! JLT had pics of Tommy on her door. He’s SO cute (her son). I gave her a gymp glow-in-the-dark Pink and Green key chain that I made 2 night ago. After that, we went under the stage! I saw all the trap doors. You know the one that the broom “flies up” from? That stair case is actually in the pit!
That was our tour. It was AMAZING! I’m probably going back on Wicked day! I can’t wait. I hope he’s still there!
