if so, who are you dressing up as... Not many regocognizable male characters unless you seen the musical. I'd love to dress up like Fiyero the scarecrow... I'll see if i can't find a good costume for that!!!
kinda like this: but not as dorky looking!!!

Hopefully I'm going to be Elphie and my sister (Tragically Beautiful) is going to be Nessa. We still have to make costumes, though. And I'm planning on wearing Elphie's last dress because it is so plain and simple yet so beautiful on her.

I'm most likely going to be the Nessa in the last scene. I just need a costume. But that's the only one I can do because I don't want to be in a wheelchair all day.

Ok, I wanted to put up what I'm planning on doing for my costume just so I could get some opinions. It's not going to be anywhere near as detailed as Fae's because I don't really have much time left. Plus, I decided I wanted to make my favorite costume, which just happens to be Elphie's last and is the most simple of all her costumes. Maybe over the summer I'll get a chance to make another one of her costumes but when I first saw the musical I knew I had to have the final costume. So that's the plan for this year. Anyway, here is how it's kinda going to look:

(no, I didn't draw it)

Dude! It's all about the free candy! I don't think I'll ever outgrow that. The costume part is getting more and more difficult but I'm so determined to get the candy. Candy! Yum yum yum...

Oct 4 2005, 10:54 PM
i never liked candy even when i was little
plus the people in my neighborhood give out their old candy
i might as well go to san marino in california and get money..
i like that wayyyy better

I wanted to dress up but my mom said I shouldn't. But if I ever see it again I think I'm gonna go all out. Then I'll know how Elphie feels from all the stares. Ooh... I think I like this idea.

HAHAHAHA now i feel like an idiot..
its ironic.
but even when i dressed up "nicely"
like a couple of times seeing miss saigon and les mis
i wore a dress..
and people were like WTF ARE U WEARING..
so i've tamed down on it
but i always see people wearing wicked shirt on top of a nice dress skirt.. maybe i'll do that in august.. who knows...
i wouldnt dress up though..
kinda like "oh look at me"
to other people's eyes
not that you meant to do that
if you get what i mean

Hmm... Good point. Darn! And I was just getting used to the idea too! Oh well, I have until next summer to decide anyway.

hi guys. last year i dressed up as Elphaba (Act II). i won my drama club's costume contest, first place. everyone was so shocked that i actually painted myself green. i got the chromacake, the pigment, and everything... it's the most meditative thing ever, being painted green.

check it out...

(that's my dear friend/nessarose counterpart/personal makeup artist, emily)

...and this year i am reprising the green girl, but going backwards in time. i'll show up in my Shiz uniform as Elphaba (Act I).
now. can i enter both costumes in the contest here, or only one?
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 7 2005, 11:04 PM
Wow! Your costume is awesome! Yeah, I have to go out and find the green chromacake. It's not going to be as easy as I though since that's a special product that they only sell at specific stores which means I'm going to have to make a trip into the city at some point just to get some green makeup. Quite frustrating. Especially since there's a mall practically across the street from my school that sells other MAC products. Just not chromacake. Argh!

Fae, the dress is gorgeous. I also noticed that you, like me, have both copies of Wicked... (I could see your shelves). Nice to know i'm not the only one.
Anyway, I'm being Glinda. I'm going for the NOMTW outfit (or catfight scene outfit, caz they're kinda the same). My costume is in the making. I can't wait to submit a picture of it!
Except... we couldn't find a blonde wig that was cheap that looked right and obviously, plastic doesn't curl. So I get to dye my wonderful red hair blonde... woo hoo! And then out comes the curling iron.
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 11 2005, 03:00 AM
Yeah, I get to dye my brown hair a darker shade of brown. Kinda boring but my sister's jealous because our mom won't let her dye her hair that dark. Then again, I'm going to dye it with the most temporary dye I can find because I like my hair the way it is.
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 15 2005, 12:55 AM
Ok, just out of curiosity, does anybody know if anybody makes green dye? Cause I've been thinking it might be intersting to do an experiment of what it's like to be green. I don't know why, guess I've hit my head a few too many times. But if I do it I want it to be for more than a day and the official Elphie make-up is a bit too expensive for an experiment and I think I'd be too lazy to put it on everyday.
Oh, and I tried green food coloring. Put it on a large area of my hand and left it on for hours before trying to wash it off. Most of it came off but I now have this big area with a green-ish tinge on the back of my hand. Looks kinda funny. But it didn't work.

>_< I think you did hit your head one too many times, but it would be a wonderful and uniquie project for people studies.

I will not be dressing up, but my 8 year old daughter wants to be elphaba. She has a hat, and black clothes. I will buy her a cape and I have to find that green make up. how hard is it to use?
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 15 2005, 04:26 AM
The official green make-up? I wouldn't think it would be too hard. I believe they dilute with water or something and paint it on. Depending on what it's like I'll probably just dip a paint brush in a cup of water and paint it like water colors. The only problem with the official stuff is it's pretty expensive.
ayovich
Oct 15 2005, 12:31 PM
I've never been much of a halloween person, so I'm having to really reach. I don't care if it's "official" or not, as long as it's green on halloween and then washes out.
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 15 2005, 05:17 PM
Haha, yeah. I just want to get the right green so I decided I may as well go with the expensive stuff. The thing I'm having a hard time with is Nessa's shoes. Anyone know where you can get silver shoes?
I would be Elphie, but I work at a Library and I work on Halloween, so I don't think they would appreciate me with a green face.
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 16 2005, 03:04 AM
Why don't you ask? They might not mind if you were promoting the book or something. And who goes to the library on Halloween anyway?
elven_ringbearer
Oct 16 2005, 03:43 AM
that is what I thought. I was like, won't the library be dead anyway? haha. They said they didn't care. We could get work done without anyone there. *sigh* I still need a costume. Any ideas. I need to be able to work in it and it can't be too out there or hard to put together.
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 16 2005, 03:49 AM
Wait, so are you gonna go as Elphie or not? You could always try to pull somethig together for Glinda. Or... Oh! Do you have a pink dress? Something nice like what you would wear to a dance. Floor length. You could wear that and be Nessa at the Ozdust! Or... Well, let me sleep on it and I'll see what else I can come up with.
elven_ringbearer
Oct 16 2005, 04:10 PM
I don't think I'll be Elphie, with the whole green face. And I don't know what to do to make my costume special so that people will know that I am Glinda, or Nessa, etc.
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 16 2005, 04:28 PM
Well, the most obvious for Nessa is the shoes but I'm finding that those are actually harder to get a hold of than I thought. I mean, if you've got tiny feet and don't mind if they're the wrong color, the most memorable thing for the Wicked Witch of the East is the ruby slippers... which are supposed to be silver... and only come in little girl sizes... that I can tell. I mean, the ruby slippers are to the Wicked Witch of the East as the green make-up is to the Wicked Witch of the West.

Oct 16 2005, 04:31 PM
I know, but I have no clue how to scrounge up a costume. *sigh* Halloween is so tough.

Oct 16 2005, 04:40 PM
Well, what do you have that we could work with?
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 16 2005, 04:40 PM
Well, what do you have that we could work with? I'm good at the last minute stuff since I usually don't figure out what I'm going to wear for Halloween until that week.
elven_ringbearer
Oct 16 2005, 04:41 PM
Well, I could *maybe* wear a dress to work (i have to push things, carry things etc. so I don't know how well I can do it in a floor length dress or skirt) So, probably not much to work with on the dress issue.
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 16 2005, 04:44 PM
Hmm... Well, what if you don't wear a long skirt? And if you're worried about working in a skirt you could always wear shorts or something underneath.
elven_ringbearer
Oct 16 2005, 04:45 PM
well, the thing about the skirt is that I have to bend down and step up on a stool etc. So I don't know how well that will work...
Beautifully Tragic
Oct 16 2005, 04:48 PM
That's why you wear shorts underneath! Ok, let's see what else we can pull together... What are some other things you like?
elven_ringbearer
Oct 16 2005, 04:49 PM
Things that I like? What do you mean? Like, things I like to wear?

Target has ruby slippers in adult sizes, but to make silver slippers you could buy any inexpensive base shoe you want and use hot glue to put glitter or sequins on the the shoes. Or if you sew, you could get satin ballet shoes and sew sequins on.

Oct 16 2005, 04:50 PM
Oops, right. I mean things like movies or books or shows and such. Other characters you could possibly dress up as.

Oct 16 2005, 04:55 PM
Ok, trying to come up with a costume that does not include a dress or skirt... Wow, this is really hard. Ok, give me a little while to think on it and I'll see what I can come up with. Oh, and which Lost do you mean? the book or the TV show?

i was thinking of doing something like that. Except I'm planning on sewing on glass beads since that's what they are in the book.
