i saw the show in august and was amazed by the changes shoshana made to the character and songs just from a couple months before (the best change was defying gravity) and several other things in the show such as the orchestrations, lighting, and some lines. why do you think they are all the sudden changes? i'm puzzled.
Defy Gravity
I know this is off topic...but I LOVE your signature! Its all the songs from NOMTW to DG!!!

Drama involves and changes all the time, especially live theatre. That's the beauty of it. No doubt some of the changes were personally, like Sho trying out new depths, etc to her character, whereas the techie things were probably just to keep the show fresh and 'new'. smile.gif

They do it in response to the audience. If the audience isn't laughing at a part where they are supposed to, they'll change it around to garner and response.

That's what's so neat about theater! In cinema, you can't change around lame dialogue between screenings, but you definitely can in theater.
wickedfreak17
theatre is one pretty nifty place, isn't it?
Defy Gravity
I like spelling in theatre for some reason.....I think it looks cooler. Isn't that like the British spelling though?

I think it's because Shoshana is getting bored with the show. She already said so her self, so maybe she is just trying ot make it a little more interesting.

I think she has had a lot of time to work on Elphaba and really develop the character. Practice makes perfect!

Am I the only one who has noticed that the orchestra is getting worse?
It's like they're just using minimal instruments-the keyboard is almost the only thing that plays.
Now, Chicago, has the best orchestra- its so brassy.
The tour's sounds just like the recording.
But, NY's sounds like a school production-every time I hear it, it gets worse.
bobert5353
The tour has the best in my opinion. The drum is a lot louder. It makes DG soooo much better!!!
Defy Gravity
I agree!!!
wickedfreak17
TOUR HAS THE BEST ORCHESTRA!!! then broadway...they could use a bit more practice, but they are probably getting more bored than the actors. chicago...very brassy, which i don't really think is a good thing.

i forgot to add this before. what i REALLY like in the changed orchistrations is in defying gravity when shoshana says "Tell them how I!" then you hear those 4 notes. it sounds great! i need to figure it out so i can play the updated version on piano.

Tee-hee!! My musical director played for the tour. Go tour orchestra!!

I do love the trumpet(or something) during that part....I first noticed it during the Broadway.com video.
wickedfreak17
i thought i was the only person who noticed it, lol.
wickedfreak17
can someone find out those french horn notes when shoshana says "tell them how i..." then you hear that loud instrument doing that run. then again when she says "am defy...". it would be greatly appriciated!

I probably couldn't help, but I will say that it sounds terribly like the theme to Raiders of the Lost Ark... please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed that!?
wickedfreak17
i didn't notice it...sorry. :-( lol
i say add more drum beats to DG as they did in the in SF run and a little bit into the broadway run.
wickedfreak17
i think the drums makes it sound to rock-ish.
bobert5353
I love the drums! It makes it sound do much better and dramatic! It really adds alot to it.
wickedfreak17
i really like the french horn in that song. it gets all the "solo" parts.

The Percussion is definately the best thing. LoL
bobert5353
hm...snowie likes percussion? thats new!! j/k!
lessthanthree
lol. thanks...

The percussionist is separate from the rest of the pit. He has a room backstage near the greenroom. It's FULL of percussion... I'll try to find the pic
bobert5353
hmmm...very interesting! try to find a pic!
wickedfreak17
